TasteTravelTalk Raw Chocolate Mousse

As Saturday afternoon was nearing, the usual conversation and question began between me and Rupert :

“So do you want to have anyone over tonight?”

“Sure!”

“Who’d you like over?”

“Oh I don’t know”

“Who’d you like?”

“How about Dan and Hannah? We haven’t seen them for a while.  It’ll be nice to see them”

“Yeah sure, that’ll be nice!”

And so the phone call was made and the invite given.

Cute Hannah & Dan the Man

Our friend Hannah, is such a gorgeous person, she’s sweet, innocent and just pure loveliness (probably not correct grammar but hey!).  She’s blonde, petite and has the cutest face and smile.  Hannah is a qualified chef who loves and specialises in making pastries and desserts ( a good friend to have if you love your desserts like I do).  She’s made many delectable birthday cakes for us, and takes custom orders too.    And her partner Dan is THE Man!!  Dan knows how to do most things, fix things, cook things, eat things, anything! He’s just one of those easy to get along with but very knowledgeable about everything kind of guy, with a warped sense of humour.

Although Hannah is the chef, Dan kind of takes over a little, guess that must be the part Italian in him!

It’s not about the food?!

Over the years we have known them we all seem go through these indulgent eating phases and frenzy of eating food that isn’t necessarily good for us but puts a big smile on our happy bellies! …and then the regret comes after. I’m sure you’ve had similar experiences!

And then, weeks later we all decide, independently it’s time to eat cleaner and healthier.  Yes you’ve had that experience too right?!  🙂

Usually when our friends come over, we often choose a menu together and cook together. It’s just more fun!  When we entertain it’s rather casual. Not so much about the food but rather about the company and just hanging out and catching up, there’s no formalities.  It’s “the drink is in the fridge” type of entertaining.

Quite ironic that it’s not so much about the food , given how much of a foodie I am.

So Rupert and  I cooked the mains, and Hannah and Dan brought the ingredients for dessert!

It changed my life…I know quite a dramatic statement, maybe a bit OTT . Ok,  let’s just say that I thoroughly enjoyed both the texture and the taste and have made it many times since.  I didn’t feel bloated like I normally do with mousse and it wasn’t too rich or sickly sweet.  Just right!  I have to admit that I was a little dubious when they first said that they were making Raw Chocolate Mousse, I secretly thought to myself “hmmm, I have some ‘real’ chocolate in the pantry as a back up! , and I can sneak some”.

Here’s how to make Raw Chocolate Mousse

 TasteTravelTalk Raw Chocolate Mousse Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 young coconut
  • 4 avocados
  • 10 pitted dated
  • 1 tablespoon Agave (or honey if you don’t have Agave)
  • drop of vanilla essence
  • 1 cup almond milk (or soy milk ; I haven’t tried rice milk yet)
  • 1 cup cocao powder

You can halve everything for a smaller serve

Method

  1.  Using a cleaver, carefully chop open the young coconut, remove the juice, and scoop out the coconut meat (make sure you don’t have any of the husk attached – no one like that much woody fibre in their dessert!
  2. Put it all into your Thermomix (if you don’t have one then use a blender) and
  3. Blend all other ingredients together TasteTravelTalk Raw Chocolate Mousse in Thermomix

Tip : add a little coconut juice for more moisture and a softer consistency ; serve with desiccated coconut and strawberries.

Thanks Hannah & Dan for my new foodie love.
