Dim Sum with a Green Banana

Kung-Fu-Chef

I was invited to have dim sum with a close friend, another banana (although he’s an ABC – Australian Born Chinese) , however, I consider him to be a “green” banana!!!  …..why you might ask?  Well, green bananas are more white on the inside! You see at least I can understand my language , he cant at all and he’s so not Chinese in many regards despite the fact that he uses his Chinese name as a first name. He has a Anglo first name which he’s almost never referred to, only on official documents. He’s a very accomplished martial artist and he does the weekly family dinner thing with his immediate family and he eats traditional Chinese meals, and even uses chopsticks!  teehee!  Although, you could be decieved by this photo here as he does looks the part!

My Green Banana Buddy
(this pic was taken when he was playing the role
of a kung fu fighting chef for a commercial)

Anyway, he invited me to lunch one day at Imperial Palace in Como, WA. I wasn’t overly trusting of his recommendation, only because he hadn’t had dim sum in many years, or so he claimed. But he reassured me that it must be good because his cousin supplies the meat to them. So, in we went to an empty restaurant (never a good sign). Doubts are flowing through my mind at this stage but of course I had the typically gracious nodding smile on my face (I’m sure you know what I mean). …..the restaurant eventually filled up and had a queue of people waiting for a table…..

We were seated, and the Chinese waiter asked what tea would we like (just like being asked what drinks we’d like to have, in a western restaurant). So, my green banana buddy responds by saying “ah,Chinese tea” and nods as if to say thank you. Well, the waiter pauses and looks at me bewildered, as if to say “did he just say Chinese tea?!”. So I answered him with “Chrysanthemum Tea please” in Cantonese (Yes, I can speak but only in restaurants to order food). The waiter then nodded with a smile, then walked away. My friend had no idea of course!

Now, why is this funny? Well if you are Chinese and reading this you would most likely understand what I’m saying more so and see the humour in such a response. You see there are so many types of Chinese tea so, of course you want Chinese Tea! , it just what flavour of tea do you want. Just like if you were asked what car do you want and you said “car!” doh!.

Anyway, I guess it’s one of those stories where you had to be there. But I’m sure you’ve got similar stories too. By the way, the dim sum was delish. I’d highly recommend checking this place out. But beware that if you go on weekends there will most likely be a massive queue, so get there very early 10 or 10.30am.

Hello this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding experience so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!

      Hi!
To be honest I don’t have any techinical experience at all, especially coding. What aspect of setting up your blog do you need assistance with? I may be able to help you out if you are more specific.
      Cheers
      Aggie 🙂
